What is a microschool?

Our microschool is a small school that combines the benefits of a preparatory school with the flexibility and individualized attention of a smaller learning environment. At Next Generation Prep, small class sizes allow educators to adapt academic objectives and instruction to individual learning needs, and provide targeted academic and developmental support.

Is Next Generation Prep a Montessori school?

Next Generation Prep incorporates Montessori principles and materials into our educational model, but we are not a traditional Montessori school.

Our approach combines elements of Montessori education with project-based learning, literacy-centered curriculum, and individualized instruction. We use Montessori-inspired practices to encourage independence, hands-on learning, purposeful work, and student choice while also providing structured academic instruction and targeted skill development.

What is the difference between inclusion vs inclusive classroom climates?

Inclusion means ensuring students with disabilities or learning differences have access to the same educational opportunities as their peers, with appropriate supports and accommodations.

Next Gen Prep practices provides inclusive classroom climates. An inclusive classroom climate goes further by creating an environment where every student feels valued, respected, supported, and able to participate meaningfully. We celebrate the diversity of our school community by learning about different cultures, traditions, and holidays, including Christmas, Easter, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, and Ramadan. We also explore literature and history from the perspectives of diverse and historically marginalized groups.

What is neurodiversity-affirming intervention?

Neurodiversity-affirming intervention recognizes that neurological differences—including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, gifted, and other learning differences—are natural forms of human diversity.

Rather than trying to make a student appear or behave more neurotypical like traditional forms of therapy like ABA, our approach focuses on meaningful skills that support communication, learning, independence, self-advocacy, participation, and quality of life. Families consistently report generalizable improvements in communication, behavior, and social skills within the first few weeks.

Is Next Generation Prep only for autistic children?

No. Next Generation Prep is a school for students with a range of learning profiles and educational needs. Neurodiversity-affirming practices are essential for neurodivergent students to succeed, but are beneficial for all students.

We welcome students who benefit from a small, individualized, supportive learning environment, including typically developing children.

Our school is built around the idea that students do not have to learn in exactly the same way to be successful. We identify each student's strengths and areas for growth and develop instruction and support that help them make meaningful progress.
